"Buzz" - male
Buzz Aldrin, an American astronaut, engineer and fighter pilot made three spacewalks and was the Lunar Module Eagle pilot on the 1969 Apollo 11 mission. He was the second person to walk on the Moon.
"EZIE" - female
Electrojet Zeeman Imaging Explorer
EZIE is a mission to explore the Sun and the system that drives space weather near Earth.
"Hubble" - male
Launched in 1990, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has changed our understanding of the universe. Hubble’s optimal position above the atmosphere, in low-Earth orbit, gives it an unobstructed view of the cosmos.
"Lucy" - female
The first mission to explore the Jupiter Trojan asteroids. Named in honor of the fossilized human, "Lucy." It is hoped the Lucy mission will refine our understanding of our solar system just as the Lucy fossil revolutionized our understanding of the human species.
"McClain" - female
NASA Astronaut and U.S. Army Colonel, Anne McClain commanded NASA's SpaceX Crew-10 mission. She is currently aboard the International Space Station to conduct research, technology demonstrations, and maintenance activities aboard the microgravity
laboratory. Three space walks to date and
over 330 days in space and counting.
"Rocket" - female
A rocket produces thrust by burning fuel. Most rocket engines turn the fuel into hot gas. Pushing the gas out of the back of the engine makes the rocket move forward. A jet engine requires oxygen from the air to work. A rocket engine carries everything it needs. That is why a rocket engine works in space, where there is no air.
"Rover" - male
NASA has sent five robotic vehicles, called rovers, to Mars: Sojourner, Spirit and Opportunity, Curiosity, and Perseverance. There are currently three lunar rovers on the Moon—leftovers from the Apollo 15, 16, and 17 missions.
"SNIFS" - female
Solar EruptioN Integral Field Spectrograph mission, or SNIFS. Launched 2 days after the litter was born, SNIFS will explore the energy and dynamics of the chromosphere, one of the most complex regions of the Sun’s atmosphere.
"Sputnik" - female
A series of Soviet artificial satellites, most notably Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite to orbit Earth, launched in 1957. This marked the beginning of the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union.
"TRACERS" - female
Tandem Reconnection and Cusp Electrodynamics Reconnaissance Satellites
NASA's TRACERS mission will fly in low Earth orbit through the polar cusps, funnel-shaped holes in the magnetic field, to study magnetic reconnection and its effects in Earth's atmosphere.
"Yuri" - male
Yuri Gagarin was a Soviet cosmonaut and fighter pilot who became the first person in space in1961. Orbiting Earth once in the Vostok 1 spacecraft, his flight lasted 108 minutes.
