The GRCA provides puppy referral as a convenience to puppy buyers to find out about breeders who are GRCA members and their litters. GRCA takes no responsibility whatsoever for any puppies/dogs that you may acquire through GRCA puppy referral. GRCA is not responsible for any breeder’s sale practices and sales contracts, nor will GRCA be involved in any manner in contract disputes between puppy buyers and breeders. Availability of puppies and conditions of sale are at the sole discretion of the individual breeder. Buyers are encouraged to read ACQUIRING A GOLDEN RETRIEVER, as found on the grca.org website, for general information about obtaining a puppy, to take as much time as necessary to locate a reputable breeder from whom they feel comfortable purchasing a puppy, and to investigate breeders and their puppies thoroughly before committing to a purchase. You are not obligated to purchase a puppy from the breeders whose names you obtain from GRCA puppy referral.
During this phase, you contact us via email, phone, or on-line application. In a phone conversation we ask each other a lot of questions to find out if a Golden Retriever puppy from one of our litters may be a match for your home. It’s very important to find the right match for your home, and this initial contact is the time to do this. If we don’t believe that one of our pups is right for your situation, we may refer you to another quality breeder if we know of one that can meet your needs. If one of our puppies will likely work for you then we move on to the next phase if you choose.
We email a contract in the form of a pdf file. In this contract is the name of the sire, the dam, the anticipated time frame for birth, or go home time, if known. The contract includes the price of the puppy, deposit information, terms of the health warranty and the expected responsibilities of the puppy owner. Contracts are only sent after the initial inquiry phase.
After review of the contract, if the terms are acceptable to you, the completed contract with deposit is mailed to our address. The postmark on your envelope is considered the deposit date. Sorry, we don’t accept PayPal or Credit Cards.
Since we have been observing pups their entire lives and know them well, we work closely with the new owners when selecting a puppy that best fits their needs. It’s important for new owners to be clear about what they will provide for a puppy. All aspects of the new home are considered for puppy placement, including other pets, children, yard size, special needs, and the amount of time the new owner has to spend with a new pup. Keep in mind that Golden Retrievers are active dogs and enjoy being a part of family life.
After the pups are born, we contact each new owner and post the information with pictures on our website. At that time, we set the go home dates and advise the new owners of their times for pick up. This is a collaborative effort that takes a lot of coordination with many driving long distances or flying in to pick up their puppy in person.
We are located 2½ hours north of the Sacramento International Airport. If flying, the new owner must book a flight with an airline that allows pup to travel home as a carry-on in the cabin with the owner.
We do not ship puppies as cargo. This is in the pup’s best interest and we make no exceptions.
